We are a small hospital, and our doctors wanted to text message patient info to admin, to help speed up the admin process. The IT department looked at several MDM and BYOD systems and found them quite expensive. Still, our doctors felt we could increase productivity with text messaging, but HIPAA compliance is a real issue with SMS. Eventually the IT department found a HIPAA compliant text messaging app (Tigertext Pro), and got admin and the doctors all on it. Small businesses are going to have to be very inventive when it comes to BYOD, and are going to have to look at what is it they really need, since they might not be able to afford a complete MDM/BYOD system.
